I have no medical training, and am inclined though not fully biased toward alternative medicine. I am one of many people who figured they would be among the last people on earth to get cancer.
I am 48 years old and am being treated for Stage IVb Vaginal Adenocarcinoma, a very rare kind of tumor in the gland cells of my anterior, distal vaginal wall. The tumor has started to invade some things next to it - my bladder and a little in my pelvic bone and one lymph node - and more distantly, my left hip joint. The treatment I am getting is pretty much identical to what they do for cervical cancer, since there is no data for the kind of cancer I have.
I am relying on dietary advice and acupuncture here in San Francisco from Misha Cohen who has a lot of experience working with western doctors on cancer patients (also Hep C, HPV, and many other tough cases!) I cannot recommend her highly enough. My weekly pre-chemo blood counts by week 3 were described by my oncology nurse as "abnormally normal."
What worked for me may not work for you. But I offer it, in case you are motivated and able to try other things. If I had not found the things I found I would be in an enormous amount of pain from the radiation (after about the first 3 weeks) and who knows what else. The pain has been by far the main side effect I have had.
I received 23 external radiation treatments. Cisplatin (70ml, I think) chemotherapy weekly for 6 weeks, and 3 sessions of high does rate (HDR) brachytherapy (or internal radiation therapy.)
